Since Ava had some weight gain issues in the beginning, we were so anxious to see what she weighed in at her one month appointment. I went with the nurse to the scale and laid her down, up flashed 8 lb 5.0 oz!! I couldn’t believe it! D and I were trying to guess what we thought she would weigh and we were both wrong (I guess 7lb 10oz, D guessed 7lb 5oz). We went back into the exam room and when the nurse saw what Ava weighed at her last appointment she couldn’t believe it. She had us go back out to the scale and weigh her 2 more times, it was really funny but I was so proud of us! Proud of Ava for getting the hang of nursing and proud of myself for sticking with breast feeding and not giving in to formula. Breast feeding was really hard in the beginning, I can see why people give it up. You really have to want to do it to be successful, especially if there are issues to overcome.
Dr. M said Ava looked great! I didn’t know it before we went but he said that she would be getting 1 shot that day (2nd Hep B). Ava cried but did really well with it. She did fuss the whole way home but I held her hand for the ride (which was pretty tricky!). Once we got home and I could cuddle with her, she was fine. Dr. M also said I should expect to see Ava smiling soon. I had already seen two on purpose half smiles and she smiles all the time in her sleep. I can’t wait to see more real smiles!
Here's her 1 month picture, such a sleepy little girl:
